Permission from the relevant laws of the Republic of Turkey, World Uyghur Congress Foundation was established on December 25, 2020 in Istanbul.

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC: uyghurcongress.org) is the only internationally authorized governing body of the people of East Turkistan. In a meeting organized in Munich, Germany on April 16 – 19, 2004, with the joint will and participation of East Turkistan (Uyghuristan) National Congress, the World Uyghur Youth Congress representatives, a vote was held on merging and by reaching a consensus, the World Uyghur Congress was found. The World Uyghur Congress fights peacefully for freedom, democratic rights and the humanitarian rights of the Uyghur people and the independent political future of East Turkistan based on democratic principles. In the 1st General Assembly held in 2004, the famous politician and diplomat Erkin Alptekin was elected as the president of the World Uyghur Congress and carried on his duty until the 2nd Congress of Representatives held in November 2006. The leader of the Uyghur National Operation, Rebiya Kadeer, held the presidency of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th terms. Dolkun Isa was elected as the president at the 6th term Representatives Congress in 2017 and is still fulfilling this duty.

PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION

It carries out its activities with the recommendations and directives of the World Uyghur Congress. It is responsible for all kinds of press and social media activities in order to announce the developments in East Turkestan to the Turkish and world public in a correct and complete way, publishes books, magazines and brochures in printed or electronic media, introducing and informative documentaries on the history and current developments, produces and get films produced, grants scholarships to students in need and carries out peaceful activities to protect human rights and develop democracy in East Turkistan. It cooperates with other non-governmental organizations, East Turkistan organizations within the framework of certain principles and rules.

ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION

 The Foundation prepares up-to-date news, bulletins and annual reports to inform the press and the world public about the developments in East Turkestan, simultaneously and accurately and include human rights violations experienced there. It can set up branches locally and globally. It archives documents and information regarding punishment camps and makes efforts to deliver them to international organizations. It conducts informative activities, organizes seminars, conferences and congresses to develop unity and solidarity among the people of East Turkistan and to become an exemplary member of each society they live in. It prepares educational programs for those who wants to learn Uighur in a virtual or formal environment, can establish language and professional skills development courses, and communicates with the United Nations and other international organizations to find missing persons. It organizes encouraging meetings and gives awards for writers, artists and poets of Uyghur or other nations who have contributed to Uyghur history and culture and prepares or has them prepared films and documentaries. It supports scientific research and publications that will contribute to the Uyghur culture. It backs up any kind of attempt of sustaining a healthy and continuous communication between Uyghurs who have been maintaining their lives in different countries all over the world, primarily Turkey. It helps Uyghurs in need of assistance within possibility.
