being &#8220;young and middle-aged men with a big beard,&#8221; or &#8220;suddenly quit[ing] drinking and smoking.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate is intensifying now as a new term for the UN Human Rights Council starts on Monday, Reuters noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Western diplomats told Reuters that some democratic countries are considering their options for how they can respond to China, including a formal ruling or recommendation on China, which may involve an investigation into the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This would be the first time a resolution is brought on China for the first time in the 16-year history of the human rights council, Reuters noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agenda for the council session \u2014 which runs from September 12 to October 4 \u2014 does not currently include any discussions about Uighurs, Reuters noted, which means that one of the 47 countries on the council will have to propose it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And members are weighing the chance to hold China accountable against the potential effects of taking action during what is already a time of global crisis, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/Lbz9QdJn_EaUC0cTOTnaDA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTk2MDtoPTcyMTtjZj13ZWJw\/https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/uu\/api\/res\/1.2\/IBuJoFlfCHGhOsWDfJqFUg--~B\/aD02ODM7dz05MTA7YXBwaWQ9eXRhY2h5b24-\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/insider_articles_922\/2da1d0e11d73a1079230c8e91d1a1161\" alt=\"Uyghur flag\" width=\"738\" height=\"554\"\/><figcaption>Tunahan Turhan\/SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Some diplomats have criticized the possibility of not acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on a condition of anonymity to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/west-weighs-contentious-anti-china-move-un-rights-council-opens-2022-09-11\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, one Western diplomat said: &#8220;If the majority decide it is not worth acting after the violations denounced in the [China] report, it would mean that the universalist vision of human rights is at stake and the legal order would be weakened.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another said: &#8220;There&#8217;s a cost of inaction, a cost of action and a cost of a failed attempt to act.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/comic-i-escaped-a-chinese-internment-camp-uyghur-2021-12?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com#-14\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zumrat Dawut told Insider her story<\/a> of escaping from an internment camp for Uyghur Muslims. She said that in residential areas in Xinjiang, police monitor your at-home conversations and question any reference to Islam. People were seized if they had anything regarding their Muslim faith in their homes, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she was taken to an internment camp where she was beaten, sterilized, and forced to deny the existence of Allah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China has repeatedly denied any allegations of human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also rejected the UN report, saying it was &#8220;orchestrated and produced by the U.S. and some Western forces and is completely illegal and void,&#8221; according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/religion-china-education-beijing-race-and-ethnicity-6c3ac4d5c4167d9e250cb7574b43c17e\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is a patchwork of false information that serves as a political tool for the U.S. and other Western countries to strategically use Xinjiang to contain China,&#8221; Chinese ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in reaction to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China has also attempted to quash the possibility of action being taken against the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China&#8217;s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Chen Xu said, according to Reuters: &#8220;The developing world will reject all anti-China initiatives initiated by Western countries.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Any kind of anti-China effort is doomed to failure,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council agenda includes discussions on the wars in Ukraine and Ethiopia, and human rights abuses in Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/un-members-considering-action-against-133553797.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAEp85q5enuqH5_YwaTRzvfJ_IVDZMZEsTGMIkQLhex9E3iH6efLeEC47wkvmBKOmRPkv-_Yk-MP1jdb6Oo5Ip26dKujfg45Ms81P_69YDTGtbi8EhPDL_qKVUnm5uGO4W4sunD6lpLY44o-wHBneTrGhwRxWfPaPZfzyKZNc3zB7\">BBC<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UN is facing the decision of how to respond to Chinese human rights violations of Uyghur Muslims.
