{"id":588,"date":"2021-04-28T15:30:37","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T12:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dukva.org\/en\/?p=588"},"modified":"2021-04-28T16:11:25","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T13:11:25","slug":"uyghurs-mps-state-genocide-is-taking-place-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dukva.org\/en\/uyghurs-mps-state-genocide-is-taking-place-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"UYGHURS: MPS STATE GENOCIDE IS TAKING PLACE IN CHINA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-politics-56843368\">BBC<\/a>.<span style=\"color:#cf2e2e\" class=\"tadv-color\"> 23 April 2021<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Below is an article published by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-politics-56843368\"> BBC.<\/a> Photo:PA Media.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than a million people are estimated to have been detained at camps in the region of Xinjiang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The motion approved by MPs does not compel the UK to take action, but is a sign of growing discontent towards the Chinese government in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, China said the UK should \u201cimmediately right its wrong moves\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Tory Sir Iain Duncan Smith heralded the vote as \u201ca historic moment\u201d, bringing the UK Parliament in line with Holland, Canada and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sir Iain was one of five UK parliamentarians sanctioned by China for spreading what it calls \u201clies and disinformation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking in the debate, Nus Ghani \u2013 another MP to be targeted by China \u2013 said genocide meant intent to \u201cdestroy in whole or in part\u201d a national, ethnic, racial or religious group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll five criteria of genocide are evidenced as taking place in Xinjiang,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Ghani said detainees were subject to \u201cbrutal torture methods, including beatings with metal prods, electric shocks and whips\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also said women in the Uyghur region were being fitted with birth control devices, adding: \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale is a fairy tale compared to the reproductive rights of Uighur women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis abuse is evidenced by the Chinese government\u2019s own data \u2013 2014, over 200,000 birth control devices were inserted in women in Xinjiang. By 2018, this had increased by 60%,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Chinese embassy to the UK said: \u201cThe unwarranted accusation by a handful of British MPs that there is \u2018genocide\u2019 in Xinjiang is the most preposterous lie of the century, an outrageous insult and affront to the Chinese people, and a gross breach of international law and the basic norms governing international relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChina strongly opposes the UK\u2019s blatant interference in China\u2019s internal affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour\u2019s shadow Foreign Office minister Stephen Kinnock said the party supported the motion arguing that \u201cgenocide can never be met with indifference or inaction\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government opposed the motion arguing that deeming an event to be a genocide was a matter for \u201ccompetent national and international courts after consideration of all the available evidence\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite government opposition, the motion passed because ministers did not vote against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreign Office Minister Nigel Adams insisted the UK was \u201cramping up pressure\u201d on Beijing through the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Canada, the European Union, the UK and the US imposed sanctions on Chinese officials in protest at rights abuses in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China has denied allegations of abuse and argued that the camps are a tool to fight terrorism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BBC. 23 April 2021 Below is an article published by BBC.
